• Robotic Rehab Therapy Arrives in NJ, Available Exclusively at JDT

ROBOTIC REHAB THERAPY ARRIVES IN NEW JERSEY,
AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY AT JDT MEDICAL REHAB CENTER

--1st Rehab Robot in NJ, Enhances Clinical Treatment, Patient Recovery --

(Lincoln Park, NJ: May 12, 2010, For Immediate Release) –
The Jerry & Dolores Turco (JDT) Medical Rehab Center, a 60 bed state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility in Lincoln Park, has quickly generated a reputation as one of the top quality rehab centers in the region. With all private rooms, innovative therapies and unparalleled concierge service, JDT has become the facility of choice for patients looking for a unique environment with exceptional rehabilitation outcomes.

Now JDT has announced that it will be the first healthcare facility in New Jersey to utilize robotic rehab therapy. Robotic therapy is the latest hi-tech breakthrough for patients receiving treatment for stroke and other neurological disorders.

In order to provide state-of-the art robotic treatment, JDT has partnered with Interactive Motion Technologies who will provide JDT with the InMotion Shoulder Elbow Robot. The robot will allow patients, with the proper assistance from specially trained physical therapists, to improve elbow and shoulder control. The robot provides a unique rehabilitation technology that responds in real time to the patient’s ability and guides the exercise treatment accordingly. If the patient is unable to move, the JDT therapist guides the robot to gently assist the patient to initiate movement toward the target. If coordination is the problem, the robot helps guide the movement, allowing the patient to move toward the target while moving in the correct way. As the patient gains movement control, the robot provides less assistance and continually challenges the patient.

Mimi Feliciano, CEO and owner of the JDT Medical Rehab Center, states, “Our vision and our mission since we opened our doors in July 2009 has always been to provide state-of- the-art rehabilitative care to each patient in our facility.”

“We are committed to providing outstanding rehabilitation using the skills of an extraordinary team of trained and accomplished physical, occupational and speech therapists. The addition of robotic therapy offers new and unique opportunities for recovery to patients.”

Studies have shown that the benefits of robotic therapy may be due to the high intensity of repetitive exercise during therapy, adaptive nature of the robot, the number and quality of movements provided by the robot that are controlled, coordinated and targeted. The interactive nature of the robot provides the patient with performance feedback which can be motivating as it measures progress. More than ten years of research has proven that motor recovery is twice that of traditional therapy alone. Patient functional improvements are long-lasting, and improvements are seen in patients who are months, and even years, post-injury. Many patients reported reduced joint pain and spasticity.

Ms. Feliciano adds, “We are proud to be a leader in rehabilitation services and will continue to offer our patients, especially those with the most complex and challenging needs, every treatment possible to regain their strength and mobility and, equally as important, to nourish and heal their spirit.”

Toni Loyas, Chief Administrative Officer of JDT, adds, “We are extremely pleased to be offering our patients the opportunity to gain back their motor skills and offer them hope for a rewarding and productive lifestyle following a stroke or related neurological event.”

The JDT Medical Rehab Center is the first rehab center of its kind in New Jersey, offering state-of-the-art rehabilitation in an elegant, healing and holistic environment. The facility offers 60 private rooms with full private baths, flat screen televisions and concierge services to all residents. A Japanese healing garden, outdoor English garden, spa and wellness center are just a few of the facility amenities. Specialty programs include orthopedic rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation.

For more information regarding rehabilitation, or to book a tour or pre-book a rehab reservation, please call Tere Kirk at 973-317-7500, ext. 1172. The facility is located at 503 Pine Brook Road in Lincoln Park, New Jersey.

• JDT Provides Major Donation to Coast Guard Auxiliary

Coast Guard Auxiliary Aviation Flotilla Receives Major Donation from
Jerry & Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center

(Lincoln Park, NJ: May 5, 2010, For Immediate Release) –
The Coast Guard Auxiliary Aviation Flotilla, Air Station Lincoln Park, is an extremely important adjunct to the United States Coast Guard. The Auxiliary Aviation Flotilla, flying out of Lincoln Park Airport and Essex County Airport, provides search and rescue operations, patrols and other aeronautical functions vital to the safety of the New York/New Jersey region.

The pilots of the Auxiliary Aviation Flotilla, known as Flotilla 10-01, are volunteers who use their own private planes for official Coast Guard missions. While on a Coast Guard mission, the planes are deemed “official Coast Guard facilities”.

Recognizing the importance of this group’s operations, and the fact that the volunteers fund their own uniforms, books, training and private airplane maintenance, Mimi Feliciano, CEO and owner of the Jerry & Dolores Turco (JDT) Medical Rehab Center, has made a major financial donation to the group to help continue funding this vital public/private partnership. During the presentation ceremony, Ms. Feliciano was joined by Flotilla Commander James Mancini and Flotilla Staff Officers Steven Schepis and Ted Pierson, all licensed pilots, who provided her with a certificate of appreciation.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary Aviation Flotilla, Air Station Lincoln Park provides functions including search and rescue operations throughout the New York and New Jersey region; winter ice patrols up and down the Hudson River; and radio patrols of lost boats, submerged boats, debris and gasoline discharges along the Jersey Shore, Long Island shoreline and New York City area.

JDT Medical Rehab Center, located at 503 Pine Brook Road in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, is a 60-bed specialized short term rehabilitation center that has, since its opening in Summer 2009, generated a reputation as one of the top quality rehab centers in the region. • JDT Creates Miracles for Rehab Patients

JERRY & DOLORES TURCO MEDICAL REHAB CENTER
CREATES MIRACLES FOR REHAB PATIENTS --

Patients Formerly Unable to Eat, Speak or Walk... Now Recovered and Telling their Stories--

(Lincoln Park, NJ: April 28, 2010, For Immediate Release) –
The Jerry & Dolores Turco (JDT) Medical Rehab Center is receiving rave reviews from patients. When the 60-bed specialized short term rehabilitation center opened last summer, they were confident that they could provide the highest quality rehab services in New Jersey.

What the facility did not know was the type of patients and specific challenges that would come through the door.

Introduced as an elegant, boutique style rehabilitation facility with extensive amenities, strong customer service and concierge services, the Center has received outstanding feedback not only from area surgeons but many of the hundreds of patients who have received care there since the facility opened.

Mimi Feliciano, CEO of the JDT Medical Rehab Center, states, “It is extremely important for us to deliver not only outstanding rehabilitation services, but to create an environment which is motivating, healing and positive. Our vision is to provide a completely patient-focused experience and our expectations for ourselves have always been exceptionally high. There’s nothing more gratifying to us here at JDT than experiencing the tremendous success stories of our patients.”

Patient Arthur Kubofcik, 66, of Prospect Park, suffered a stroke in the spring of 2009, followed by a massive cerebral hemorrhage and more than 10 surgeries. Mr. Kubofcik was on life support in a vegetative state, with a feeding tube for nutrition.

His son, Will Kubofcik, of Wayne, a former mayor of Prospect Park, said he would do whatever it took to see his father recover and would not give up hope. He said, “Dad was in six hospitals, and my mom and I took shifts spending 24/7 with him because he was in such a fragile state. But when we brought him to JDT Medical Rehab Center we knew we were finally in the right place. It felt like we were in a 5-Star hotel. We wondered if our first impression of ‘wow” would be met with patient care that was of the same high level. And it was! We were so impressed with the tremendous caring and talented staff. It’s hard to imagine that this place is here in New Jersey.”

Arthur began to improve and now walks with a cane. With the help of the speech therapist and VitalStim therapy to improve swallowing, he is now eating solid food. “When he thought he didn’t have the energy or ability to do something, the JDT therapists encouraged him and gave him the confidence to do so”, adds son Will. “His recovery is truly a miracle.”

Mr. Kubofcik, owner of the Triangle Diner in Hawthorne, has been discharged and is now at home with his wife. He returns to JDT weekly for outpatient therapy. With a big smile, Arthur adds, “They gave me my life back. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. I spent a lot of time in JDT’s Healing Garden and the staff here gave me a second chance for a new life. I am so grateful.”

Frank Sevean, 71, of Pompton Plains, is currently receiving outpatient rehab at JDT following his inpatient stay from October through January. Mr. Sevean was admitted to JDT after being hospitalized for some time. Prior to arriving at JDT, he was hospitalized with pneumonia and then, with added complications, he slipped into a coma for six weeks, resulting in paralysis of his right side. On a tracheostomy tube for nutrition, Frank was fed through the tube during this period. When he awoke from the coma he was quite weak, requiring three people to assist him in standing and unable to eat solid food. During his last week as an outpatient at JDT, Frank is doing remarkably well. “I am walking now, with a cane, talking, and I can eat whatever I want and I’m enjoying the good life.” He credits JDT rehab staff and the nursing staff for assisting him to recover with their aggressive rehab program and positive attitude.

Mimi Feliciano, the owner of JDT, adds, “We were so pleased to be able to help these and many other patients, especially those who were in multiple hospitals prior to being admitted to JDT and had complex medical conditions. We knew that we had assembled a team of the most outstanding rehab and nursing professionals in New Jersey and that we could assist them. Not only is our team experienced and motivated, our atmosphere is so conducive to healing.”

Jack Brownstein of Wayne was skeptical about going to JDT Medical Rehab Center after being hospitalized. With a tracheostomy, stomach tube and extreme weakness, he now credits JDT for giving him back his life. “After four months at JDT I was a new person. I could walk again, and most importantly I could eat solid food and speak.” Working closely with certified speech therapist Mohammad Alqudah, Jack regained his speech, surprising his wife with his first words... “I love you. I could go for a bagel.”

Mr. Alquadah, certified in VitalStim therapy to assist patients in regaining swallowing skills and eating solids foods, comments, “We want to assist the patients to get back to the highest level of functioning possible.”

While most people will make progress in their rehabilitation process, these patients who showed tremendous improvement attribute gains to the strong will to continue, positive attitude at JDT and trust in the rehab team.

The Jerry & Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center is located at 503 Pine Brook Road in Lincoln Park, on the campus of The Lincoln Park Healthcare Experience. For more information or a private tour, or to make a referral, please contact Tere Kirk, Marketing Director at (973) 317- 7500, ext. 1172.

• First JDT Patients Thrilled With Care

First Patients at Jerry & Dolores Turco Medical
Rehab Center Thrilled with Care

(Lincoln Park, NJ: August 24, 2009) –
When Pompton Plains resident James Parker found out he needed rehabilitation following a hospitalization for a blocked artery, he knew exactly where he wanted to go for rehabilitation... the new Jerry & Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center (known as “JDT”), which had just opened. Six years ago, Parker had a very good experience in Lincoln Park Renaissance Rehab and Nursing Center, which adjoins the new JDT Medical Rehab Center. Once he heard the owners were building JDT, he knew he’d be back.

As one of the first new patients, Parker says, ”It’s like being on a cruise ship. All we need is a moat! The care we receive here blows my mind. People give you anything you ask for. The owners and administrators are very caring and that trickles down to the staff.”

Mr. Parker is very busy at the JDT Medical Rehab Center. He receives daily rehab treatment in the rehab gym and on Rehab Road, the indoor simulated neighborhood community. He is already feeling stronger and well-rested, crediting the quality of medical treatment and the wonderful restaurant-like food. When he is not receiving rehab, Parker enjoys the Japanese healing meditation garden and the computer center, where he catches up on his emails. His wife is also a big JDT fan, and on one of her visits to see her husband, stopped off at the Day Spa at the facility to have her hair done.

“It’s unreal how nice it is here. Once I leave I will look forward to coming back for outpatient therapy. And when I am strong enough, I want to come back as a volunteer!”

Grace Beardsmore, a Lincoln Park resident, could not be happier with the care she is receiving at the new JDT Medical Rehab Center. Her daughter, who lives nearby, had come in for a tour of the building before patients were being admitted and was extremely impressed. After Mrs. Beadsmore’s recent surgery, her daughter encouraged her to come to JDT for rehab.

Mrs. Beardsmore is effusive when talking about the facility. “The staff here at JDT is fantastic. I love the place and they give you the best of everything. My friends who have visited me already want to move in. My private room is beautiful and I love the food! I have been working on Rehab Road and enjoy all the different rehab treatment areas. I even had my hair and nails done in the Beauty Salon! This is the Life!!”

With new patients coming in daily, a second floor already filling up and bookings coming in for future reservations following surgery, the Jerry & Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center is making a real difference in the community.

Located at 503 Pine Brook Road in Lincoln Park, the Jerry & Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center is a 60-bed short term rehab and subacute center offering a new standard of care in rehabilitation and concierge services. Specialty programs are provided in stroke, pulmonary and orthopedic rehabilitation. They accept most insurance plans and Medicare. --Hundreds tour building, admissions at a steady pace--

(Lincoln Park, NJ: July 15, 2009, For Immediate Release) –
The Jerry & Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center is now open and accepting patients. After months of anticipation and tours of the building by the professional and local community, the first patients have been admitted.

The facility is currently accepting new admissions as well as pre-booking for future reservations post-surgery. This enables patients to enter their surgery process knowing that arrangements for rehabilitation have already been made.

Jerry and Dolores Turco had a vision many years ago. As leaders in the healthcare and real estate industries, they originally created a facility offering quality long term care services. Eventually several other health care facilities were added to the campus. The facilities became recognized for their innovative vision and became branded as The Lincoln Park Healthcare Experience.

Mimi Feliciano, the CEO of Lincoln Park Renaissance Rehab and Nursing Center, Lincoln Park Care Center and Lincoln Park Hospice for the past 8 years, embodies her parents vision and has taken it upon herself to continue to build on their accomplishments after both her parents passed away. Ms. Feliciano states, “We are so excited to be open and accepting patients. We have gone to great lengths to provide rehabilitation in a setting that is like nothing the region has ever seen. Patients will receive treatment in a healing and holistic environment which offers traditional and cutting-edge rehabilitation along with acupuncture, acupressure, massage therapy, indoor aquatherapy pool, sauna, spa, beauty salon, chiropractic services and biofeedback. Specialty programs include orthopedic rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Some of the most exciting features of the facility are the Japanese healing meditation garden filled with tropical plants and fragrances to soothe the soul and heal the body as well as the outdoor English garden terrace which provides an environment created to provide tranquility to patients recovering from an accident, surgery or illness.

The JDT Center will be partnering with referring physicians to provide continuity of care to patients. Private rooms with balconies and pull-out sofa beds for guests can be pre- reserved for post-hospital treatment, easing the stress of last minute placement.
